· 3 fundamental attitudes which are necessary to function well as a group.

3. Quiet prayer and reflection

Meditation on the word of God on the multiplication of loaves: which are my loaves and fish that I want to bring to this group?

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand, Matthew 14:13-21

 New International Version (NIV)

“When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds    followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. As evening approached, the    disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. “Bring them here to me,” he said. And he        directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the      disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.”

LEW 35: marvels of the power of divine Wisdom in the creation of humankind

If the power and the sweetness of Wisdom shine forth so brilliantly in the beauty and order of the universe, how much more evident are these qualities in the creation of   humankind!  For the human being indeed is Wisdom's     supreme creation, the living image of Her beauty and     perfection, the most excellent container of Her grace and of Her treasures — Her unique representative on earth.

“In your Wisdom you have so designed human beings that they are able to rule the creatures that you have made.”  Ws 9:2

This text recalls the Old Testament theology of humanity's ‘domination’ over nature.  Today we are in the process of trying to come to grips with a ‘new story’ of humanity's    relationship to the web of life, affirming the idea of ‘stewardship’.  In this matter as elsewhere in the translation we have tried to soften the language wherever possible, but without suppressing the historical legacy that also has something to teach us about ourselves.

4. ‘Going further’ : time to integrate

Exercise on the tree: Annex 1

Links: are the values which inspire me present in society?  What pricks my conscience?

I am invited to construct my own profile according to the exercise of the tree.  The tree will show me where I am at this time as I undertake a spiritual journey.

Process

First of all, I draw a tree with its roots, a trunk and branches with some leaves on them.  At the bottom, I put a few dead branches.

My tree: at this precise moment in my life, I look at who I am and where I am with my human and spiritual development.  I write down:

·      In the trunk: my name

·      On the roots: what I value (what is important for me in my life)

·      On the branches: my achievements (what I have done with my life)

·      On the leaves: my hopes, my desires, my dreams

·      On the dead branches: my limits (what stops me becoming what I want to be)

Personal reflection in front of the mirror which is my tree.

I bring this to the next meeting.
